A Weekend of Community with the Tangent South-Eastern Regional Luncheon — Reflections on a Wonderful Norfolk Sale.

Set against the backdrop of Norfolk’s endlessly inspiring landscapes and wildlife, the regional luncheon hosted in Norfolk on the 15th November brought together over 200 Tangent ladies from across the south-eastern region. The guest speaker was the awesome Elly Griffiths whose Dr. Ruth Galloway series I have long enjoyed, eagerly anticipating each new novel. Her latest book, The Frozen People, was as unexpected as it was delightful and I couldn’t recommend it more! This was the absolute highlight for me and Elly was as entertaining, charming and interesting as I had anticipated. Musical entertainment was provided by Dale Bullinore with his melodic crooning.  I had been asked to design a tea towel incorporating the celebrated Norfolk Wherry as the thank you gift for ladies which was well received and I also hosted my own Bolly Baggins art stall. This turned out to be  one of the most heart-warming and successful events I’ve attended yet.

Celebrating the Spirit of Norfolk

Norfolk has a way of settling into your soul. With its sweeping salt marshes, big skies, reed-lined waterways, and diverse wildlife, it is the perfect location for any artist. The sale highlighted what I already feel —Norfolk isn’t just a place; it’s a mood, a way of life, a reminder to slow down and look a little closer.

My collection of prints, featuring scenes from the North Norfolk coast, the Broads, and the wildlife found in our area, was much appreciated. Tangent ladies recognised familiar places — Mundesley beach huts, the bridges of the Broads, the red skies of a Broad’s sunset, and they shared their own memories connected to those landscapes.

Wildlife That Captivates

One surprise highlight was how quickly the wildlife prints and greetings cards sold out. Whether it was the swooping marsh harriers circling over reed beds or the charm of Norfolk’s iconic seals, or even the delicate beauty of kingfishers sitting patiently waiting, each piece seemed to resonate deeply.

Seasoned birdwatchers lingered over prints featuring species they’d spent hours quietly observing in nature; Reed and Sedge Warblers, Redshanks, Greater Crested Grebes, Herons, Terns and Marsh Harriers.  It was a reminder of how connected people feel to the wildlife that makes Norfolk so special. Christmas gifts were procured for bird-loving partners. I should add that I simply love painting wildlife.

The Joy of Greetings Cards

Greetings cards bring a different kind of joy: heartfelt and personal. Many ladies stocked up on cards featuring coastal scenes, local wildlife, and whimsical Broadland vistas, planning ahead for upcoming birthdays, thank-yous, or just-because notes. My “Crazy Creature” cards sold like hot cakes and Christmas cards also sold extremely well.

Community Energy and Meaningful Moments

What made the event truly successful wasn’t just the number of sales but the number of conversations. Guests shared stories about the first time they saw a seal pup at Horsey Gap, their tradition of morning walks along Cromer pier or Mundesley beach, family holidays using the beach huts, or the magical quietness of a misty morning walking the dogs on the Broads.

Looking Ahead

I left the weekend feeling enthused, energised, and more inspired than ever.

To everyone who attended, shared a kind word, or took home a print or card —thank you. Your support keeps my small business alive.

New work is already underway, and I feel excited about bringing more of Norfolk’s landscapes and wildlife to future events. Until then, may the wide skies and wild places of this beautiful county stay with you wherever you go.
